NOVELL ANNOUNCES NETWARE FOR MACINTOSH V3.011
NOW AVAILABLE IN 5-, 20-, 100- AND 200-USER VERSIONS OFFERING
ENHANCED PRINTING AND SNMP SUPPORT
5-User Version Provides Cost-Effective Solution for NetWare Networks with
Few Macs
Walnut Creek, Calif. -- June 22, 1992 -- Novell today introduced the first
5-user version of NetWare for Macintosh in the product line's latest
release, v3.011. The 5-user version contains the same enhanced printing
capabilities as the 200-user NetWare for Macintosh v3.011, introduced in
March of this year. Novell also announced 20- and 100- user versions of
NetWare for Macintosh v3.011. All stratifications of NetWare for
Macintosh v3.011 are shipped with 5.25" and 3.5" diskettes and new
features include SNMP support, print accounting, printer logs, printer
keeper and hold queues, and the option to cancel print job notification.
NetWare for Macintosh v3.011 offers customers who have standardized on
Novell's multiplatform NetWare v3.11 transparent integration for their
Macintoshes, no matter how few or many are hooked into NetWare's powerful
services. Along with the introduction of the 5-User version, Novell also
announced an extensive NetWare for Macintosh v3.011 upgrade program to
higher stratification levels that reflects substantial savings to
customers.
Steve Nelson, Director of Marketing for the Novell Desktop Systems Group,
Macintosh Products, noted, "The new 5-user version of NetWare for
Macintosh is the direct result of customer requests to bring down the cost
of Macintosh integration for a NetWare v3.11 network with fewer Macs,
while still offering the sophisticated printing and network management
capabilities of our popular 3.011 version. The 5-user version also makes
it easier and more cost-effective for NetWare v2.15 and v2.2 customers
with Macs to upgrade to NetWare v3.11."
Enhanced Print Functionality
Print Accounting
NetWare for Macintosh v3.011 allows network administrators to charge a
user's NetWare account balance based on job size or monetary amount per
page when dequeueing and printing print jobs.
Printer Logs
NetWare for Macintosh v3.011 instructs the NetWare for Macintosh print
server to maintain a printer log file for each printer on the network
including Apple Computer LaserWriters, ImageWriters and compatible
printers. The printer log file holds such job information as queue name,
job number, job size, title, owner and errors.
Hold and Keep Queues
Apple Talk print jobs submitted to the NetWare for Macintosh print server
may be placed on hold by the user or the print queue operator. The hold
queue offers flexibility to users who wish to submit their print jobs to
a queue and have them printed at a later time. The keep queue will delay
printing, holding the document in the queue, until the user decides to
print the job.
Optional Notification
A spooler configuration option can be activated when users wish not to be
notified by the printer of a job completion. Users continue to be
informed of print job errors if they are logged into the server,
regardless of the print configuration selected.
Support for SNMP
The Apple Talk router included with NetWare for Macintosh v3.011 supports
the AppleTalk MIB I specification for SNMP (Simple Network Management
Protocol), allowing the exchange of management information between network
components. Using SNMP consoles viewed from within NetWare for Macintosh,
network administrators can now monitor network performance and status,
control operational parameters, and report, analyze and isolate faults.
